Submit an essay, no more than 500 words, regarding the following scenario:

The superintendent of schools in your community has taken a leave of absence to receive treatment for depression and alcohol addiction. She issued a press release saying only she is "taking time off to undergo medical tests for a chronic illness."
You have two reliable sources willing to go on the record in the situation described above.

In your essay, address the following:

  1. How will you pursue the story? Why?
  2. When does the free flow of information that serves the public good outweigh the rights of an individual's personal privacy?
