Submit an essay, no more than 500 words, regarding the following scenario:

This story focused on the 911 emergency system and its weaknesses. A TV reporter had a dramatic tape of a young man’s plea for help just before he was shot and killed by a neighbor. She chose not to use the boy’s conversation believing it was too invasive and too troubling. Her story instead focused on the problem of 911 calls not being routed to the closest law enforcement agency.

In your essay, address the following:

  1. What criteria would you apply on whether or not to use the 911 tape which is highly compelling but too troubling?
  2. What did the choices that the reporter made about this story mean to the accuracy and context of the story?
